Jamesons was established in 1930 by Eddie Jameson in the small Yorkshire market town of Masham. In the early years the company sold seeds to local farmers and the business soon developed into the sale of other farming essentials such as fertiliser and animal feeds. In 1970 the company built a feed mill at Foxholme Lane in Masham. Today, Jamesons is a leading supplier of feeds, seeds and fertilisers to farms throughout the north of England.
Having recently invested in the feed mill, the country store and in its people, Jameson’s is perfectly placed to efficiently supply farmer’s requirements. Tim Jackson, IT and Systems Advisor commented on the changes: “We made some significant changes to improve our business and have continued to support farmers all over Yorkshire and Lancashire throughout the pandemic. We are a mostly paper-based business and in the current situation, where the supply chain is vital, some reliability issues were highlighted with our existing print solution. These have led to unnecessary queues in our shop and the holding up of vehicles at the Weighbridge whilst waiting for paperwork. We were also paying a premium for our cartridges, which we purchased on an ad-hoc basis, with no managed print arrangement.”
Tim approached a number of print suppliers for their recommendation, looking predominantly for a solution that would improve operational efficiency, have the essential reliability for peace of mind and ultimately reduce the longer-term print costs. Tim commented on the selection process: “I thought the suppliers would be offering similar solutions and at the end of the day it would just come down to price and a brand that I was comfortable with, but Nuvem Solutions really impressed the team with their approach. They took the time to understand how our business operates and tailor a solution that would specifically work for us not just now, but into the future. The conversation switched from a vendor relationship to a true partnership.”
Nuvem recommended Toshiba A3 and A4 multi-functional printers (MFP’s), with a fully managed print service. Michael Woodcock, Director at Nuvem, commented on the approach and choice of solution: “We think it is important to understand how a business operates before we make any recommendations, the discovery phase is really important to us. We can then make a proposal that will not only work for now, but can also be developed and enhanced with changes to business processes. For Jamesons, currently a very paper heavy transactional business, reliability and reducing toner costs was critical, but with the potential to reduce paper in the business for the future. We only recommend Toshiba hardware as we can be assured of the quality and functionality; it is a trusted brand.”
The Toshiba MFP’s were installed early morning to avoid disruption to store trading, with the pre-installation site survey and liaison with IT provider ensuring a smooth and seemless transition.
Tim talked about the immediate benefits for the business: “To be honest, the new print solution is better than we could have imagined. We’ve seen instant improvements in terms of speed of printing, enabling us to reduce queues in peak periods and it has revolutionised our invoice/statement runs, a job that used to be a monthly challenge is now just a simple process. But the most important thing is the reliability, it’s just something we don’t need to worry about now, they fade into the background, and if we do have any sort of issue, the Toshiba team are so responsive, we are assured of quick resolution. I was hoping to reduce the cost of our printing as we were paying a lot for our cartridges and the Managed Print Service has given us a 60-70% cost reduction, based on our quarterly costs for the previous year and with an increase in the amount of printing we did over the same period. It has also taken the pain out of the ordering process; as it is totally automated, the cartridges are now just there when we need them.”
In addition to the initial benefits, because Nuvem took the time to understand the business objectives, Jamesons now have a solution that is future-proofed to adapt to changes in working processes and the overall drive to reduce the amount of paper in the business. The functionality on the MFP’s will allow greater flexibility and versatile document management.
They have the ability to set up customised workflows, scan straight to SharePoint, send to individual or group email addresses, or simply ensure everything is saved where it should be. This will minimise the need to print, with the added benefit of increased security across the entire infrastructure.
When we embarked on this process we wanted a reliable print solution, with lower toner costs, this we have achieved; but by partnering with a team of experts like Nuvem, we now have a future-proofed platform that is a node for digital transformation.” Tim Jackson, IT and Systems Advisor
